Richard Tyrrell

Richard Tyrrell was born in Dublin, Ireland, but lives in London. He is a writer of poetry and short stories (published in The New Statesman, London Magazine, Poetry Review, Irish Press, Poetry Ireland Review, Stand Magazine, Acumen, Orbis and many more). His plays have been performed at the King’s Head Islington amongst others; he was finalist in the Bruntswood Prize for Playwriting and on Channel 4’s The Play’s the Thing series. He was a contributing editor to Bloomsbury’s Encarta Book of Quotations and the first Irish chairman of the UK Poetry Society, then wrote freelance for newspapers (Guardian, Sunday Times, Independent, etc), before becoming a full-time writer, creating city guides for corporate clients (he is Vice President, Research & Development, at Going-there Global Relocation).  Among these is Netflix, for which he runs their staff city information site.

THE FOX OF KENSAL GREEN is a superbly written debut novel with a big heart, that will make you laugh, cry and remind you of the joy of community spirit.

Wilf is a familiar character in the neighbourhood. He lives alone and has his routines, his fears, but the local community look out for him and like him. He has an effect on them all. His friend and neighbour Felicia has said he should get a pet. He decides on a fox, one he sees in Kensal Green Cemetery. He has to train it and persuade it to come to him, into his house. Then someone is killed in the neighbourhood and suspicion falls on Wilf. The community rally to his defence but tragedy ensues…
