Karen is a writer, performer and creative writing tutor. Her debut novel IN SEARCH OF THE MISSING EYELASH, first published by Jonathan Cape, won the Betty Trask Award and was shortlisted for the Best First Novel Award. Her memoir LIFTING OFF, about the twelve years she worked flying (and flailing) as cabin crew, is published in June 2024 by Muswell Press. Writer-in-Residence and Literary Events Co-ordinator at Bookseller Crow on the Hill in Crystal Palace, she has developed a series of popular creative writing workshops which she runs at the bookshop and tours nationwide. She also works and tours with LGBTQ+ literary salon Polari, based at London’s Southbank. She holds an MA in Creative & Life Writing from Goldsmiths University and has been a visiting lecturer in creative writing at the University for the Creative Arts, Positive East and at the Shakespeare Archive Trust.
